When Penny Got Flat

Your echo is too loud

Could you take it down a notch

Maybe I’d stop looking at the ground

If you’d stop thinking with your —

Well, anything was fine with me

But now that’s just not true

Yeah you’re tainting my coffee

‘Cause my sugar’s just not sweet

And you can take that puppy dog tail

Place it, find it another cause

Maybe something useful

Like wasting wine and cheap cigars

But then I would have to feed you

And Betty Crocker went out to play

So I guess you’re on your own huh

What a significant day.

The distance between now and cyber space

Slurred Lines

There was too much space between the platform

And the track belonging to the homeless

Whose liquid lunch made the distance blurry

But pronounced the length to which she’d go to

Close her eyes and drown them in the filthy

Footsteps that took him to the conditioned

Indoors where bleak repetition made him

Drink when he touched the doorknob of the home

In which she paced the floor hoping that they’d

Grow to be different from the way scared kids

Cling to the violent concept of the love

That everyone is looking for or making

Up as they travel but never arrive

Since there’s too much space until the platform.

Justice

As soon as the words are on the page

The time is different

My mind is changed

Each beat is eased

Good or bad

It’s captured

That feeling

The ache

…I hope I did it justice.

Who Knew

This is the moment I discovered that bumping into strangers, listening to scuttling rats, and avoiding old gum on nearly all surfaces are not essential elements in all countries' subways. Weird.

Flashback

One of the millions of pictures I took while in Germany two years ago.
This one has always been a favorite because of the way the arches echo each other.
